Meet Maya.
Maya Trabin is the founder and principal of Audacious Communications. A seasoned writer, editor, and strategist, Maya has devoted her life and work to confronting injustice and creating a more equitable world.
Whether developing digital strategies or creating tailored content to express an organization’s highest goals, Maya brings together deep strategic and technical knowledge to help people and organizations share their unique story with the world – and be heard. She believes in the power of storytelling and the act of listening. In perhaps her biggest ahead-of-the curve moment, as part of her Master’s thesis in the 2000s, Maya conducted participatory research on youth voices in health campaigns – as social media was being born, capturing the radical shifts in who gets a voice, and how we listen.
Earlier in her career, Maya led digital communications at a social justice foundation, was a web editor at Youth Radio, wrote voter guides in swing states, worked on women’s economic empowerment projects in West Africa, farmed from Israel to New Zealand, and volunteered as a hospice worker in California.
Maya holds a Master’s degree in International Development with a focus on human rights, social justice and gender studies from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands, and a B.A. in Community Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Born in Haifa and raised in Oakland, Maya now lives in the Bay Area with her partner and two kids. She enjoys coffee, connecting her community and talking about herself in the third-person. She is committed to confronting her own biases in becoming an anti-racist ally through organizing and hard conversations.
